Applies to: Ecto-1 battery tray (each compartment is marked 4×AAA).Ecto-1 has 2 compartments — repeat this process for both.
Step-by-step
Open the battery compartment and remove all AAA batteries (if installed).
Locate the tray terminals: find the ends marked (+) and (–) (usually at the far left and far right of the tray).
Install only the two end inserts
Place Insert #1 on the far end that connects to the (–) terminal.
Place Insert #2 on the far end that connects to the (+) terminal.
Leave the two middle battery slots EMPTY
Do not install batteries or dummies in the two center slots.
Critical: terminal contact
Ensure each insert’s copper contact is firmly touching the tray’s terminal copper (+ / –).
If the copper pad isn’t making contact, the car won’t power on.
Route the cable neatly (if applicable) and close the cover carefully (don’t pinch the wire).
Power on / test.
If nothing happens: reopen and re-seat both end inserts, checking polarity and copper-to-copper contact.
Quick troubleshooting
No power: 99% of the time it’s contact (insert not pressing on terminal copper) or polarity reversed.
Intermittent: re-seat and make sure the insert isn’t shifting when the door closes.
Diagram installation
How to identify + / – (IMPORTANT):
Look at the end walls of the battery tray and find the single exposed metal/copper contact.
That single metal/copper contact is the terminal contact point your insert must touch.
Use the tray’s printed (+ / –) marking near that contact to confirm which side is positive or negative.
